Real, active Indian business interest already exists in Ethiopia — an Indian business delegation, led by the Indian Economic Trade Organization, has held direct discussions with Ethiopia's Investment Commission about investment opportunities. This isn't a cold market.

#### A genuine, recent upgrade to the visa system

Ethiopia used to offer investors only a short-term entry permit — three months, renewable for another 15 days at a time. That's now been replaced with something meaningfully better: **a proper multi-year Investor Visa.** Foreign executives and shareholders qualify for a **5-year visa for $1,000**; managers and board directors qualify for a **3-year visa for $750**. This is a real structural improvement, not a minor fee adjustment — it removes the constant renewal cycle that used to define doing business there.

#### The different visa categories, and which one you actually need

- **Investment Visa (IV)** — for investors or those seriously exploring investment, requiring a support letter from Ethiopia's Investment Commission
- **Foreign Business Firm Employment Visa (WV)** — a short-term visa (up to 30 days, single entry) for employees of foreign-owned businesses already operating in Ethiopia, not for investors themselves
- **Standard Business Visa** — for meetings, conferences, and general business activity, typically processed in about 3 days, with fees ranging roughly $152-$500 depending on category

#### The documents that come up across nearly every category

- Passport valid 6+ months
- A letter of support from the inviting Ethiopian organization
- The inviting company's **Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) certificate**
- Business license of the inviting company

#### Something worth knowing about the country itself

Ethiopia is one of the oldest countries in the world, with a business and diplomatic history that predates most modern African nations' current borders. That history is a real asset in relationship-building conversations — it's not a country entering the world stage for the first time, and treating it that way tends to land poorly.

*Note: the investor visa fees ($1,000/$750) are recent enough that confirming current rates before applying is worth the extra step. Standard business visa fee ranges varied across sources — treat as directional, not precise, until confirmed.*
